Kidney tumor successfully treated at Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital Dubai
A 60-year old lawyer was referred with an incidentally found left renal tumour. This was picked up on routine health checkup. The tumour was suspicious for being malignant. As the growth was centrally located in the kidney, he was advised by other colleagues to go for a total removal of the kidney. Of those who offered a partial removal, they have advised to do it through the classical open approach, which would normally entail a big surgical incision and prolonged hospital stay.
Dr. Ali Thwaini has counseled the patient to undergo a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, and have been doing these procedures routinely in Northern Ireland, prior to coming to the UAE. The patient agreed to proceed. The procedure was carried out as planned. It was an amazing team work that we have at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib. The patient recovered smoothly from the operation and he was discharged home after two days.
A follow up check a week later in the outpatient clinic and was given a travel clearance. And he made his journey safe and sound back home on the second week. The histology of the tumour showed a rare but non-sinister growth and the patient and his family were delighted with the news and very grateful that his kidney was saved.
